Shannon is a very special young woman who has already made a significant contribution to her school and the broader community. Through her involvement on Student Council and in the Grade 9 Integration Program, Shannon has made a lasting impression as one of the most dedicated and empathetic leaders in her school. Not only does she work hard but she also takes a genuinely personal interest in her fellow students and tries to understand their interests, challenges and points of view. Shannon’s charity of choice is Sick Kids Hospital and she has chosen it for very personal reasons. Her older sister was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was 7 years old. She has fought the disease and after relapsing, it was necessary for her to receive a bone marrow transplant. With the help of the oncologist and the staff at Sick Kids, the transplant was a success and she is in remission and healthy today. Shannon thanks Sick Kids for saving her sister’s life and is thrilled to be able to give back to them through this award.
