Monique, a grade 11 student, has a very personal connection to the cause of her charity, the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. Two years ago, her cousin, Luke Santi, was diagnosed with an inoperable condition and tragically, seven months later lost the battle. Last summer, Monique herself was diagnose with a rare brain condition and suffered a stroke during competitions at the Canadian Senior National Swimming Championships held in Montreal. Fortunately, she was saved by a brilliant surgeon who coincidently, founded the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. Monique still faces related physical challenges but is determined to make a difference in her community and to live every day to the best of her ability.
