Mackenzie Schultz

Mackenzie, a grade 11 student, is very passionate about her support for her favourite charity, Free the Children. It is the largest network of children helping children through education. Last year Free the Children and supporting sponsors held the second annual Waterloo Region We Day and Mackenzie was very involved, putting in over 14 hours of her time and energy. She has also participated in Me to We’s Volunteer and Leadership trip to India in the summer of 2011. There she had the opportunity to volunteer in the local community and make a difference in the lives of the people living there. Through this program, Mackenzie has deepened her level of intercultural understanding and developed tools to become a stronger leader in her school and community. She believes that this trip was life altering for her as never before has she felt that she impacted a group of people as much as she did in Bagad. She has also learned a lot about herself and it opened her eyes to a career path she had never considered before. Mackenzie believes strongly that Free the Children extends youth the opportunity to truly “be the change they wish to see in the world”.
