Celie, a grade 11 student, first heard about her charity of choice, Free the Children, in 2010 and says she was immediately hooked. She says it has empowered her to help others both across the ocean and right here in her community. Celie has adopted a child in Africa and purchased animals and food for developing communities and has also been a part of donation drives for local charities as well as working to encourage others to get involved too. Celie has volunteered with the Ayr Minor Ringette Association for the past 4 years. The Assistant Coach describes her as having excellent leadership capabilities and uses these to lead and guide her teams. He notes that “many of the girls in her care have benefitted from having a great mentor and showing that we all can make a difference”.
